Henry's Story

Life May 2003 Life's been good. Short term with the Navy where I spent time in Florida, Adak-Alaska and Point Sur-California. Vacationed down in Antigua. Left the Navy after 3 years, goofed off for a while. Involved in bad car wreck that knocked some sense into me. Got married to a great lady in 1978 and have been happily married every since. I have one 10 year old daughter who is the light of my life. I owned my own business for awhile (Music service during the disco era in a resort area), sold it, went back to school and now have been working for Michelin Tire Corp for the past 17 years. I'm currently the IT/IS resource for Michelin's North American Consumer Relations department. Love the job. Get to build/admin big fancy computer systems and write all sorts of neat programs. (I sit behind computer screens and play all day long.) College Went to Tec twice, first time for a degree in electrical engineering and then back again a few years later for a degree in electronic engineering. Finished off the degrees with night classes. Have attended countless classes and obtained various Novell and Microsoft certifications. (Some have long since expired.) Workplace Develope apps in Access, VB, C++, Powerbuilder, Java, Main work done in: Small to mid size network setup and admin CRM software implementation and admin Ecommerce systems (Using the net to outperform competition) database mining and merging. (Customer reports) Cognos/DSS/SAS/DB2 Web development using FrontPage/Dreamweaver Have years of experience in authoring Allen Bradley PLC programs for production assemblies, proprietary code developer for robotic control systems. A past life includes circuit board design and layout. ...Expand for more
Also have years experience in analog and digital circuit design. (Learned how to build computers before learning how to program them.) Military Sept73-Nov73 Orlando-Fl Bootcamp - Loved it. During the last few weeks there, was in charge of new recruites. Loved eating in the same mess hall with the women. Nov73-Jan74 "A" School in Key West-Fl. Lived off base in the house of the guy that ran "Lou's Bar" down on Duval street. He stayed in the apartment above the bar so I had the house mostly to myself. The house was only a block or so from the "most southern point in the US" sign. Partied way too much while I was there. Finally had to leave and go directly to Adak-Ak. Party was over. Jan74-Mar75 Adak-Ak Cold-Windy-dark-lonely-depressing-tracked lots of Soviet subs-Georgi-happy-sad-lonely-cold-windy-dark. Mar75-Aug76 Pt Sur-Ca Now this is the duty station you want to be at. If I ever moved back to California, this is the only area I'd want to live in. (Well, Napa valley area wouldn't be objectionable.) Would love to have that house I lived in way up in the Carmel hills. Spent many days cruising up to Santa Cruz to go surfing. (Steamer Lane, Sewer's Folly) Never surfed again after leaving Ca. East coast waves suck. Used to love getting off that last evening shift at midnight, drive down to the hot springs overlooking the Pacific down near Big Sur and spending several hours relaxing in the warm water and cool night air...aaahhhh. Then there was the hang gliding....tried that once or twice when I got back to the east coast but it just wasn't the same as Pt Sur. Finally got out of the Navy in Aug76 and hitch-hiked home. (Thought I'd save money....blew most of it before I left LA.)
